How Sunrise’s Behavioral Health Team Can Help You

If you need behavioral health help, you’re not alone. In Washington State, 27.14% of the population experienced a mental illness during the past year, according to Mental Health America. Sunrise Services is one of many organizations dedicated to helping people like you.

Our caring therapists, clinicians, and nurses offer a wide range of mental and behavioral health assistance to people in Snohomish, Skagit, Island, and Whatcom Counties:

Behavioral Health Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is a common (and often successful) treatment option for people with mild to moderate behavioral health symptoms. Most patients receive it on a weekly, monthly, or as-needed basis. In many cases, appointments last an hour or less. It can involve different subtypes of therapy depending on your diagnosis and situation, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), relational therapy, or acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

Sunrise’s individual therapists meet all of the requirements for offering counseling in Washington state. That means your therapist will have a license, years of experience under clinical supervision, and a degree in a mental health field like psychology, marriage and family therapy, or counseling psychology.

Behavioral Health Group Therapy

Group therapy is another common option for people with mild to moderate symptoms. Many patients find it helpful to work through behavioral health challenges together with others who have similar experiences, especially for issues like addiction, social anxiety, or eating disorders. These sessions can involve a variety of treatment techniques depending on the behavioral health concern.

Group therapy sessions are run by mental health professionals who have the same credentials as individual therapists. They usually involve 1-2 hour sessions on a regular schedule, such as once a week. We currently offer options for art therapy and EMDR therapy that people can participate in as well.

Medication Management

Medications aren’t always needed to treat behavioral health challenges, but they are helpful for many people, depending on the situation. They are often used in combination with other treatments like individual or group therapy. In most cases, medication helps you regain control over your emotions so you can implement other strategies more effectively.

There are many different types of well-researched medications that can help with different mental health challenges. A few of the most common types of medications include:

  • Antidepressants such as SSRIs and SNRIs often help people with depression, but they are also sometimes prescribed for other concerns such as anxiety or insomnia.
  • Anti-anxiety medications can help with generalized anxiety, social anxiety, or panic attacks. Benzodiazepines are a common option for short-term use, but there are other non-habit-forming anti-anxiety medications that can be prescribed as well.
  • Mood stabilizers are a common treatment for people with certain types of mood disorders.
  • Antipsychotics can help with psychotic disorders like schizophrenia and people with other disorders who exhibit similar symptoms.

Your care provider may prescribe different medications to you based on your medical history and symptoms. Not everyone responds to the same treatments, but fortunately, there are a range of medications and other treatment options available for most mental health conditions.

Case Management

A case manager can coordinate services in the community for you, such as healthcare services, housing, transportation, employment, and opportunities for socialization if needed. They can help you avoid unnecessary hospitalizations and support your recovery.

Chemical Dependency Treatment Services

Chemical dependency treatment might start with a safe detoxification process, but it doesn’t stop there. It often includes therapy, education, and other treatments to help you avoid a relapse and resolve any mental health issues that may have contributed to your challenges.

Jail Transition Services

Sunrise Services helps people who are leaving jail find support and community resources such as housing assistance, job training, and mental health counseling. We can help you take the next steps toward a good re-entry into the community and a fulfilling new life.
