What It’s Like to Live in a Sunrise AFH or Enhanced Services Facility

Sunrise Services has several living facilities for people who need ongoing healthcare support or help with daily living activities. Many of our clients live in one of our Adult Family Homes (AFHs) or the Enhanced Services Facility (ESF).

At Sunrise, our mission is to provide for people’s unmet needs and help everyone in our communities live fulfilling lives. Here’s how we support residents’ quality of life at our Adult Family Homes and the Enhanced Services Facility.

Sunrise Adult Family Homes

Sunrise Services’ Adult Family Homes (AFHs) are known for having professional staff who genuinely care. All of our AFHs and staff have Washington State certification and specialized training. Residents live in a comfortable, homey environment.

AFH residents benefit from a dedicated Health Department led by a Registered Nurse. We give residents detailed assessments and care planning to ensure we can provide exactly what they need.

Our AFHs are open to any individual, including those with mental, physical, and cognitive disabilities. We understand that every individual is a whole person who deserves respect and has many possibilities, not just challenges. Our staff aim to develop each resident’s interests and plan for personal activities.

Our Enhanced Services Facility

Sunrise’s Enhanced Services Facility (ESF) is a state-licensed facility, much like an AFH or Assisted Living Facility, that serves individuals who need a high level of support. It helps individuals who have complex needs, including physical disabilities, cognitive impairments, and mental health support needs.

The ESF helps up to 16 individuals at a time with a staff of nurses, caregivers, mental health professionals, and an onsite administrator. In many cases, the ESF is what enables someone to be discharged from the hospital. We help individuals gain the onsite medical care they need, stabilize, and participate in their community.

Our goal is to help individuals find a new home in the community that meets their support needs. While an individual stays at the ESF, we will provide the support they need and connect them with helpful services and benefits.

Services For AFH and ESF Residents

Payee services

Sunrise’s Journey Housing and Payee Services help many of our AFH and ESF residents with money management. Our team helps clients direct, manage, and use funds like Social Security. We put our clients’ needs first in all financial decisions and work hard to earn their trust.

Journey Housing and Payee Services help clients gain financial resources and expand their care options. Depending on the client’s needs, we can also help with:

  • Budgeting
  • Paying bills
  • Writing checks
  • Loading program-provided debit cards
  • Managing finances
  • Monitoring spending
  • Balancing accounts
  • Maintaining records
  • Offering financial education

Mental Health Supports and Oversights

Residents at Sunrise facilities can get the mental health support they need. Our AFHs plan for residents to get the outpatient medical care they need, including mental health appointments. The ESF has mental health professionals on staff who can provide care.

Outside of our residential programs, Sunrise Services has behavioral health clinics in Everett, Bellingham, Mountlake Terrace, Mount Vernon, and Oak Harbor. Our outpatient behavioral health services include individual and group therapy, case management, medication management, substance use disorder treatment services, jail transition services, and art groups. Prescribers work closely with the patient’s clinical care team, and medication management is provided as a part of comprehensive treatment services that include working with a case manager or therapist.

Fun Events and Activities

We believe in supporting the whole person, so Sunrise AFH and ESF residents enjoy a variety of facility events and activities. We regularly schedule activities for residents and help them stay active in their communities. Our staff devotes special attention to each individual resident’s interests so they can continue doing what they enjoy.

Our residents also enjoy holiday celebrations throughout the year. We aim to celebrate the holidays that are important to each individual resident, including their religious holidays.
